“It is not a slight thing when those so fresh from God love us.”

~Charles Dickens

This little pumpkin hat has great meaning to me.   When my son Jackson was born, he was very sick and spent awhile in the NICU on a ventilator.  It was the most difficult thing in the world to leave our baby at the hospital, but the nurses and volunteers that we encountered there were our lights in the darkness.   A group of ladies knit a bunch of these pumpkin hats for all the babies in the NICU.  I still remember the day we walked in to go see him and had to have a little laugh to myself.  We had walked into a pumpkin patch.  The nurses had put the little hats on all the babies for Halloween.  It was a wonderful sight.  It was a bright spot, it made me feel normal.  So, I tucked it away in his baby book and thought to bring it out for this October newborn session.  It fit this sweet, sweet little girl so perfectly.  It brings back wonderful memories and makes me happy to see this special hat on other babies.  :)   Don’t  you just love how she has found her little thumb already?  I loved photographing this little one and it was great to see her mom again–I got to photograph her and her “BUMP” awhile back…oh, and for those of you that were wondering–it’s a girl!!!!

Dad is a huge Boston Redsox fan–her middle name is Fenway, how cool is that?!–so we had to include a sneak peek for him, too. Enjoy your sneak peeks, and I can’t wait to see how much she has grown when I see you for the mini sessions!!

The hot pink bloom is from Dolce Vita Mia, and I loooove it!  She does fan-tabulous work, and if you want to see more of her work, head over to her website, where this little cutie pie can be seen!

“We find delight in the beauty and happiness of children that makes the heart too big for the body. “

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Dearest Addison,

Eight months.  Wow.  I just don’t where the time is going.  You are such a wonderful addition to our lives.  You are growing much too fast–I see how quickly Jackson got to three years old and it makes me want to stop time in its tracks.  I love these days.  They are days of watching you delight in seeing me upon waking in the morning.  The determination in your eyes as you concentrate on pulling yourself up to stand, and your glee as you crawl quickly across the floor in pursuit of some random toy you have spotted.  You have four teeth and happily click your tongue against them to make quite a satisfying sound.  I think you believe that you are making a kissing sound back at me.  :)   You love your brother to pieces and break into a wide grin whenever you hear his voice.  Lately, you love to climb all over him when you both are on the playroom floor.  You are such a sweet baby, and I never even knew you were teething until the teeth already had broken through.  It was only then that you decided to let me know that you were in pain.   You love to feed yourself and you are blissful when you are an enormous mess of smashed avocado and sweet potato.  I love you and your brother more than all the stars in the sky.  Don’t grow up too fast, my sweet.

All the love in the world,

mommy

“Sometimes being a brother is even better than being a superhero. “

~Marc Brown

We had so.much.fun with this session!  During a session, I love to just walk around and explore an area, and inspiration hits me at the oddest times.  When I spotted an abandoned shopping cart in front of an old, blue car repair shop, my mind just swirled with fun possibilities.  Luckily, this family was up for the fun and trusted my vision–as crazy as it sounded.  The shopping cart images are some of my favorites from the session.  Don’t they just look so close and fun all piled in there with Dad wheeling them?!

These two brothers are so close in age and love cars, trucks and each other.  It is so obvious…despite the good-natured lip-pinching–you’ve been caught on camera, sweet Finley!  He-he!  Mom Grace is the owner and designer behind Finley and Oliver, and she made these most adorable tees that her boys are wearing.  You might remember her from a giveaway we had earlier on the blog.   They are a stylin’ fam, I tell you!  I loved everything–right down to their shoes!  You all rock, thanks!

“The highest happiness on earth is marriage.”

~William Lyon Phelps

Man, I always have the most gorgeous clients!  Can’t you already imagine the eyes on the children these two will one day have?  Amazing.   This lovely couple will be getting married in Utah this December–what a wonderful time of year!  They are such interesting people, and I enjoyed getting to know them.  Meredith is an administrator at a junior high school–it brought me back to my teaching days and reminded me of all those great students I taught.  Bryce is a Mississippi boy and has the cutest southern drawl.  I know these two  have a lifetime of happiness and beautiful memories ahead of them.  Thanks for such a fun session, you two!

“A sister is a little bit of childhood that can never be lost.”

~Marion C. Garretty

When this family showed up dressed in these fabulous colors, I was so excited!  I love it when my clients dare to go bold with fun colors.  They are the perfect example of how families can coordinate with one another rather than match.  Awesome!  These sisters were so adorable and were naturals in front of the camera (their mom, Amy, owns Tote and Tee and they have been her models for some time now)!  Check out Amy’s website and the great tees that she has–I ordered one for Jackson for his third birthday with a big “3″ on it.  I am in love with the modern print that Amy used for the “3″.  Thanks for a fun session…I hope you enjoyed your “stay-cation” (I couldn’t resist, Dad!) in Scottsdale!

“A boy’s story is the best that is ever told.”
~ Charles Dickens

I had so much fun photographing this little sweetie!  What little boy doesn’t love to play with cars?  He was a natural in front of the camera–I mean, check out that pose!  :)

“Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity.”

~ Henry Van Dyke

This couple was sooo fun to work with.  They have such a fun personality, and I had a blast at this incredible location.  These two sweeties will be getting married next year, and I can’t wait to photograph them on their wedding day.  :)   How much fun will that be?!  Hopefully then I can photograph them with their furbaby, who they left behind in California for the weekend.  I am so happy to have documented the love that you two have for one another at this special time in your lives–you are awesome!  Thanks!!

“In the sheltered simplicity of the first days after a baby is born, one sees again the magical closed circle, the miraculous sense of two people existing only for each other.”

~Anne Morrow Lindbergh

She said goodnight to her sister, went upstairs and thought that it would be smooth sailing since her due date was over a week away and her husband would be returning from out of town the next day.   Apparently this little one had different plans.  As she lay down for the night, she felt her water break and the journey began.  Her husband drove in the middle of the night from California, thankfully making it in more than enough time to welcome his sweet little princess into this world.  You see, she waited. It was such a pleasure to photograph this beautiful couple as they were anticipating the arrival of their little girl, and again a pleasure to photograph and meet their sweetie.  Thanks so much!  :)

“To become a mother is one of life’s greatest blessings. It is a lifelong event that forever changes you. Becoming a mother changes your heart, your thoughts, and your actions.”

~Anonymous

This fresh little one loved her mommy so much that she decided to wait to make her debut until she was 41 weeks, and when she arrived at 10 pounds, 1 ounce, she was greeted with so much love and warmth.   This mommy has an exuberance about her that is contagious.  She was so excited for her sweetie’s arrival and is such a strong woman–she welcomed this darling at home…and it was her first!  I was so happy to have been able to photograph her while pregnant, and now to photograph this little princess.   It is something incredible to be able to bear witness to this amazing journey that a woman takes into motherhood.  I feel so fortunate to be a part of such a life-changing experience.  Thank you for allowing me to document your story…
