1. So, last week I mentioned in my {ten on tuesday} post that I wanted to get an ice cream maker. Sweet Cassi recommended her ice cream maker and Roxxi told me a fun way that she used to make ice cream by rolling around coffee cans. Well, coincidentally, Jackson had ice cream day at preschool this past Friday, and they MADE their own ice cream! I cannot wait to do it again–it was SO simple and so fun!! They used a large ziploc baggie and a smaller one. Inside the small one was vanilla, cream and sugar. In the large one were 1 and a half cups each of rock salt and ice. Put the smaller one into the larger one and SHAKE!! Easy, peasy!! Oh, and in true Jackson fashion, our boy decided to toss his bags high in the air instead of merely shaking them, and finished off his ice cream with a straw.
2. I am in love with our Keurig coffee maker. Yep. I actually went without caffeine for around, I don’t know, at least five years. Well, with my schedule I have had to start up again.
Simply pop a pod in and in about 45 seconds you have a piping hot cup of sweet java! Some of our fave pods: cafe mocha, donut shop and cappuccino. Ahhhh, bliss.
3. Jack and I went on a date night to paint our own pottery. We had a blast! Jack made a tow-mater bank and I painted a coffee cup (told you I liked our new coffee maker). We carefully chose our pieces, wiped them off with a sponge and water, chose our paints and paintbrushes and went to town! I don’t think ol’ ‘mater could have had any more coats or colors of paint on him! A highlight was being able to paint him with a toothbrush! He was so excited to pick up his new piece of art after they glazed it, and was so excited to transfer his money from the old bank to ‘mater.
4. I recently saw this on Facebook and instantly fell in love. Sweetie Elizabeth did a little research and found that it is the manifesto of company Holstee. They plan to start selling them in October. Such amazing, powerful words. Seriously.
5. After a trip to Toytown and lunch at Barro’s with some friends last week, I spotted a Goodwill. Always a fave for me to go looking for fun photography props.
I ended up finding a little trampoline for Jack and Addie. Jack loves it! Perfect to have fun bouncing and burning off of energy. Fabulous deal at $19.99, too! You never know what second-hand jewels you’ll find!
6. I can’t wait to meet the gals behind Oh Fiddlesticks when they fly to Phoenix in November for our commercial shoot of their fabulous new line of tees!! They sound like so much fun and I puffy heart their tees! They *almost* were featured this week on E! News but alas, were edited out at the last minute! Sandra Bullock bought an Oh Fiddlesticks {cow+boy} tee for her sweetie–have you?
7. I just went on amazon.com and bought this book and music set for Jackson. They read it/sing it to the kiddos at preschool and he just loves it. I love that it makes him feel so special and happy. So, so sweet. I can’t wait until it gets here and we can also read it at home.
8. My little sis text me yesterday and told me she wants to come out in December/January! Yay! She made my whole week–we can’t wait to see her! She finished up grad school a year ago and is now back to school–well, sort of. She is completing her dietetics internship at Bayfront Hospital in Florida to become a dietitian. So, she has a student’s schedule and has some time over the holidays! We can’t wait to see you Alex!!!
Oh, and I love that I may or may not get in trouble for posting this pic of her–it was just SO her and SO her personality I had to steal it off her FB page!! As she put it, the girl is serious about her ice cream! Hehe!! Love you sissy!!
9. Nine years since 9/11 this week. How will you remember the lives lost? Where were you? I was teaching a Spanish class to a group of high schoolers in St. Petersburg, Florida when the news began to trickle in between classes by my students. I remember coaching a swim meet that night and wondering if we should still be having it. I was filled with worry about the whole event but also what it would mean for my father who was living in Saudi Arabia at the time. My friend Kara tipped me off to a memorial in Tempe this weekend. Check it out here.
10. It’s HOT!! CRAZY hot!! The end.
xoxo,
laura
