Christie - My husband is the pastor of a church in Peoria, One thing that I do and that our church does as well is outreach to the community to meet their practical needs. So, I bought some turkeys on Thanksgiving for the turkey drive we did. We provided over 200 turkeys to the food bank. Also, we are buying Christmas gifts for over 250 children and mothers who might not get gifts this year. Me and my family have taken one for each of our children and for me as well. I truly believe the saying “it is better to give than to receive” and will continually strive to make this a part of my life!

Alicia Brule - In my efforts to make a difference I decided to lead both of my daughters girl scout troops. I think it’s important to teach our youth the importance of giving back. Every year we adopt a senior at our local nursing home for the holidays. We are also doing goodie bags for the childrens hospital. Now every year they decide what else they want to do with their time and money like donating and helping out at the food shelf, or participating in Feed my Starving Children. This has given all the girls a greater appreciation and respect for the privileges in their lives. My hope is that they carry on the generousity into their adult lives. Change the world one child at a time.

Being a sister of two siblings that are in the Military serving overseas right now, I would like to see more people spend time supporting our troops rather than bashing the events that are happening. They need our WHOLE support. We need to do away with untruthful media, and decrease commercialism. We need to get back to the roots on which our country was founded. Faith, Love and Family. There will always be sadness in the world, but there is so much we could do to decrease the amount felt.

Kara - I am currently a senior in highschool. Photography is my passion, and my dream is to travel the world… photographing everywhere and everything!! (Kind of like Art Wolfe!)

I am going to study photography in college next fall!! After graduating, if the ‘traveling the world’ thing doesn’t work out, I hope to open a studio with affordable prices. I want to make the world a better place by offering cheap or free sessions to those who wouldn’t be able to afford to have their photos taken professionally otherwise!! Such as those whos husbands are serving overseas, or those whos lives have been affected by natural disasters.

PaveiPhotos - What I would/or do to make the world a better place…it may not be much but I donate clothes, food, and my time to many of the neighborhoods here in Brazil. The poverty level here is quite sad and I do what I can to give the simplest things like water, warmth, etc. every month.

Well it took me all of two hours but I went through each.and.every.one. of the vendors. I have things that I love in all of them, but I kept going back to the Emily Ann cards and stickers (love the tripod ones!) and the Heavenly Bites stuff (holy moly that stuff looks awesome!).

Brittany Davis - One thing I do to make the world a better place: I recently joined up with a company that takes newborn pictures for NICU babies for free to kind of help out the parents during such a hard time in their lives. Most Moms with babies in the NICU would never think to have newborn pictures taken of their little one and I do this free of charge. So nice to help out people in need.

Melisha Blair - Okay how I make the world a better place – I am a “single wife” 7 1/2 months out of EVERY year but it’s a sacrifice I make so that my husband can do what he loves which is deploying to Iraq 6months a year to support troops working on specific combat equipment, and spends the other 6 weeks supporting at NTC or doing TDY. I also try to shoot as many free sessions for the military families in my community when they’re loved ones redeploy without going broke

I would like to start working more with no-kill animal adoption centers, using photography to raise funds for these shelters as all of my “furbabies” have come from great adoption centers. Working on it for 2011!

Jessi Youngblood - Annnddd… for entry number 10, what I would like do to make this world a better place is a bit out of reach… I would love to help every child have a childhood a good as I did. Though I don’t have any children of my own yet, I have such a huge place in my heart for them and I feel like the key to making this world a better place in future years is to make the people of the future better people. If every child was able to experience a loving family, a roof over their heads and food in their belly’s every night, I firmly believe that they would grow up to be much better people. In order to do a small part of this, I hope to someday adopt children and give at least a few the childhood that they deserve.

Hillary Horman - what i would do to make the world a better place….well…each day I try to do something. I teach my son to love…so that he also can make the world a better place by becoming a better person in this world. I like to live by the quote ”I cant do everything for everyone everywhere, but i can do something for someone somewhere”. I figure if i can make my little world that i live in a better place by doing service, charity and loving those around me then maybe 1 of those people will pass it forward. Also, i am in the rough draft stages of putting together a photography book about ”coming as you are” and accepting everyone for who they are. It’s not much…but its something right ? =)

This foundation provides free photography services to those who have recently lost a child. Jenna - The way that I am making a difference is to act & not just speak. My Dad was diagnosed in May with Huntington’s Disease and we have always had “plans” to go to Fenway Park or to continue our tradition as a family of going to Georgetown ever year in December or to go bowling more often, etc.. you get the point. Deanna - For the bonus entry…how would I like to make this world a better place???

Well… I lived next to a family where the father passed away abruptly and unexpectedly. The mother worked all sorts of hours to make ends meet, while the children did their best to raise themselves (approx 7 and 13 years old). They struggled with school work and they all around struggled socially. One day, I offered the kids to stop by my home after school and I could help them (along with my own son) with their homework. We sat on the front picnic table, had snacks and worked on school work. It was a wonderful blessing in my life.

I was blessed to have both my parents available at any time, and my children are blessed to have both their parents in their lives. I would love to set up a foundation where loving families could offer a bit of their time to help struggling children in their neighborhoods, with their homework and with school issues.
