March 8, 2010giving is awesome! (arizona)
December 9, 2009“I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver.”
~Maya Angelou
I am super excited to be part of a worldwide photographic event called Giving is Awesome! I have always believed in the importance of giving back, and I am so happy to be able to through the gift of photography. Something that will make someone having a difficult time smile through it. What is Giving is Awesome?
You know someone.
You know someone who’s experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. You know someone who can’t afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family’s spirit, love, and beauty.
You know someone. I guarantee it.
I want to know who they are, and I want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography — $1200 worth, to be exact. The winner will receive a complimentary, custom session with me, a high resolution digital negative CD with print release, a DVD slideshow and $100 worth of prints. Tell me their story because it deserves to be recognized.
Oh, and the best part? The person who nominates the winner receives a complimentary session fee ($125) and $100 print credit. What better reason to show some love could there possibly be, people?
The rules:
* You cannot nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make the annual trip to Disney World does not qualify as sincere financial need.)
* The nominee must reside in the East Valley, within 30 miles of 85295 (or the session must take place at a location that is). Tell me who you know, what they’re experiencing, and why they deserve my artwork. Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself.
*If you don’t know someone that could use this, pass the link on! Post it on your blog, facebook, myspace, email it to your friends and family because I’m sure they could spread the love to someone they might know.
* You must e-mail me the full story : laura@laurawinslowphotography.com by Monday, December 21st at 2:00 pm.
*The winning sessions will take place between January and May 2010. Happy New Year!
You have from today until Monday, December 21st at 2:00 pm to submit your nomination. I must be able to notify the winner with a surprise phone call on Christmas Eve. I will also announce it on my blog that same day–so get nominating! I can’t wait to read all of your entries!
The premise is simple: think of someone you know who deserves custom photography but can no way possibly afford it. Nominate them to win it. Enjoy the warm fuzzy feeling you brought to the world.
Open your heart to someone this holiday season — and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.
With love,
laura

she’s glowing (phoenix maternity photographer)
November 8, 2009“If I had my life to live over, instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I’d have cherished ever moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.”
~Irma Bombeck
This gorgeous mama-to-be was so fun to photograph. Her amazing auburn hair just glowed in the morning sun and she had a sunny personality to match! Both she and hubby have red hair…hmmm…what color do you think their sweet baby will have?
I can’t wait to find out when I have the pleasure of photographing their sweetie when he–or she–makes their arrival right around Christmas. Another surprise baby–I love it!
On a side note, does anyone else think that this anticipating mama looks like Tori Amos?
I just couldn’t help asking…I think she bears such a resemblance to her! Beautiful!!
Their new baby will share the love with three sweet furbabies–two cute cats and a floppy bunny! It is obvious that these two have a world full of love to shower upon their baby. What a lucky little babe. Thank you so much for a wonderful session. I absolutely cannot wait to meet your bundle of joy next month…

boy or girl? surprise! (phoenix maternity photographer)
August 31, 2009“A new baby is like the beginning of all things, hope, a dream of possibilities.“
~Anonymous
I drive past this sign all the time, and each time I think how fun it would be to photograph a baby bump under the “BUMP” sign. This mama-to-be went with my vision and made it a reality–so fun! We hit a few other great locations, too. Isn’t she gorgeous? She and her hubby are huge Red Sox fans and will be expecting their little player (or will it be a little cheerleader?) in October. They want the gender to be a surprise…my guess is a boy! My hubby and I chose not to find out the gender with our first child, and I will never forget his birth day as my hubby exclaimed, “We have a son!” I’m so excited for these two that they will get to experience the same bliss. What a super-fun session…more to come! Thanks, guys!

August 25, 2009“A woman has two smiles that an angel might envy, the smile that accepts a lover before words are uttered, and the smile that lights on the first born babe, and assures it of a mother’s love.” ~Thomas C. Haliburton
I am so lucky to have the most gorgeous and fun-loving clients.
What a wonderful session! These two parents-to-be were such fun and were game for all my ideas. Want to climb down these stairs to get to that cool structure? No problem. Want to lie down here? No problem. Want to walk around in simply a bella band? No problem. Want to climb in the water and get all wet? Still, no problem! Yay! What a wonderful way to cool off at the end of the session, and it made for some fabulous images. I know these two will make fabulous parents, and I can’t wait to see them in action when their little one arrives. I look forward to photographing your little sweetie pie when she makes her debut into this wonderful world. Thanks again, S + J. Tell your mom hello–how fab to meet her, too!

This gorgeous mama already has three beautiful daughters, but she soon will have a new experience when she welcomes her baby boy into the world. She braved the Arizona evening for our session, and happily ended up in the refreshingly cool pool. What a beautiful baby bump she has, and what a special way to remember this, her last pregnancy. It was a fun session at a fun new location–don’t you just love the mountains in the background and all of the yellow flowers? I wish you a smooth and amazing delivery–I hope your little man makes his debut at a time so that I can be there to capture his birth! Keep me posted, and thanks for a fun time!!

bridezilla becomes a mommy / phoenix maternity photographer
August 9, 2009~E.B. White, Charlotte’s Web

Imagine my surprise when I learned that this sweetie mama-to-be just recently had her own episode on WE TV’s Bridezillas! Just married in November and having a honeymoon baby, bridezilla is a term that I would never think to use in reference to her…she is just as sweet as can be, and so laid back! She and her hubby welcomed me into their home and were game for anything…we photographed in a gorgeous pecan orchard, on a fishing dock, with a watermelon and even in her bathtub! This wonderful couple is naturally beyond excited to welcome their little girl. I even got to look at the scrapbook Angela made, filled with touching moments detailing her journey to motherhood. It was quite the fun morning filled with plenty of laughter. I am looking forward to photographing their sweet little peapod Elora when she makes her debut very soon. Thanks for a great session!

mom to superman / phoenix maternity photographer
July 11, 2009when a tiny heartbeat is heard for the very first time
and a playful kick reminds her that she is never alone.”

This gorgeous first time mommy-to-be will be bringing her son Adrian Kalel into this world in just a few short (or long, if you are nine months prego during an Arizona summer) weeks. See, her hubs is such a huge Superman fan that they decided on the name Kal-el because that was Superman’s Kryptonian name. How can this little boy be anything other than super?
I love outdoor maternity sessions! There is just something so ethereal about a woman about to bring a baby into this world being outside among nature. One would think that it would be crazy hot to do an outdoor shoot in Arizona in July, but we were at it pretty early this morning to get that sweet light and to beat the heat. It wasn’t bad and we even had a nice breeze! One of this mama-to-be’s best buds came along to watch–isn’t that sweet? Such a great shoot…doesn’t she have such a cute looking smile? Love it! Thanks so much for allowing me to photograph that beautiful bump of yours, and congratulations!

This morning I had the opportunity to photograph this fun mama and I even got in some shots of her two little cuties! This happy family will be welcoming their newest addition in just three short weeks when her little girls will have another sister to shower love upon. This gorgeous mommy was up for anything, and we had some giggles along the way! Thanks so much for letting me into your home and allowing me to photograph that beautiful belly of yours. It was a blast!
