”I’ll breathe in  your newness,

and remember these days,

forever in delved in my mind.”

~Pamela Simpson

This new little family was just so incredibly sweet and in love with their new daughter.   During newborn sessions, there is plenty of time for feeding, soothing and lulling baby back to sleep.   So, we had a little downtime to chat while this sweetie was getting her little belly fed.  As we were chatting, I teared up as the new dad said, “If I would have known that it was going to be this good, I would have had children a long time ago.”  That, my friends, is the magic of parenthood.  Something that, before it happens to you, seems wonderful–but when you actually have a baby of your own you realize that wonderful will never be enough to describe the love, emotions and protectiveness you feel toward this small human being.  I don’t think there is a word strong and all-encompassing enough in the English language to describe what happens to you when you become a parent.  I love being able to see that happen to new parents when I meet them and their days-old son or daughter for the first time.   Ah, bliss.  This little peanut weighed in at 5 pounds, 5 ounces and was so beautiful.  She snoozed happily and was such an agreeable little model.  She worked up quite the appetite by the end of the session.   It was wonderful to meet all of you and to talk with you.  Thanks so much for opening your home.  Enjoy your sneak peeks!

“The child must know that she is a miracle, that since the beginning of the world there hasn’t been, and until the end of the world there will not be, another child like her.”

~Pablo Casals

This precious baby girl was just so wonderful to photograph.  She has the most beautiful brown eyes and just loves to look around.  As you walk back toward her gorgeous nursery, you pass by a wall of large photographs of her two year old big bro as a baby.  Oh.my.goodness.  It could be the same baby!  I love that!  It is the same way with my two little ones–they are almost exactly the same age apart, and sometimes I swear I am looking at Addison’s baby photo when in fact it is Jackson’s!  This little sweetheart will snooze in style–her nursery is an elegant mix of classic, modern and vintage.  A room fit for a princess.   It was such a pleasure to meet this wonderful family and to photograph such a sweet, darling baby girl.  Thank you for opening your home to me.  You are truly blessed!  Enjoy your sneak peeks!

This sweet baby boy was born just days before Christmas.  Can you imagine a more divine gift?  His wonderful mom and dad–who I got to hang out with during their maternity session here–are naturally just thrilled.   They decided to keep the gender a surprise, so you can imagine how sweet it was in the delivery room to hear, “It’s a boy!!”  :)   He is so sweet and calm–I could have cuddled him all day!!  Don’t you just adore his darling red hair, too?  Congrats, B family.  Savor each and every moment with your amazing little gift.

What an amazing “job” I have.  I just feel so lucky to be able to hold babies that weren’t even here just a few short days prior.  What a miraculous thing to be able to look into a baby’s eyes and to truly see the whole world before them.  Seriously.  I am in awe each time I leave a newborn session.  I have definitely been getting my baby fix this month!  This little man was the third little newbie for December, and another client just welcomed a baby boy this morning.  That makes four boys for December!  Isn’t he so sweet?  His parents and big sisters (aren’t they just beautiful, too?!) are obviously in love with him already, and really how could you not be?  Mom and Dad had so many fun ideas–we put this little guy into a stocking, a football helmet (with a strong middle name like Packer can you guess what team is a family fave?), a Santa outfit and so many cute little hats.  Dad is in the jewelry business, so we just had to show how little this sweetie’s toes are by trying Dad’s ring on for size.  He was such a good sport and patiently modeled for me for several hours.  I just had to post the one of him in the stocking because I love how he is seemingly fascinated by his cute little hands.  Thank you for welcoming me into your home–I can’t wait for you to see the rest!  Enjoy your sneak peeks!  :)

” I think that I see something deeper, more infinite, more eternal than the ocean in the expression of the eyes of a little baby when it wakes in the morning and coos or laughs because it sees the sun shining on its cradle. “

~Vincent van Gogh

I fell in love with this little man the instant I saw him.   He started off the session by giving me some adorable smiles and later showed off his stunning baby blues.   I just adore this amazing yellow blanket–it belonged to this little man’s great grandmother.  I love to photograph newborns with items of sentimental value or importance.  It makes the photographs that much more special.  Mom and dad are obviously smitten with their new sweetie, and it shone through in their images.  It was amazing to meet you all, thanks so much for allowing me the honor of photographing your beautiful family.

giving is awesome! (arizona)

December 9, 2009

“I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver.”

~Maya Angelou

I am super excited to be part of a worldwide photographic event called Giving is Awesome!  I have always believed in the importance of giving back, and I am so happy to be able to through the gift of photography.  Something that will make someone having a difficult time smile through it.  What is Giving is Awesome?

You know someone.

You know someone who’s experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. You know someone who can’t afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family’s spirit, love, and beauty.

You know someone. I guarantee it.

I want to know who they are, and I want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography — $1200 worth, to be exact.  The winner will receive a complimentary, custom session with me, a high resolution digital negative CD with print release, a DVD slideshow and $100 worth of prints.  Tell me their story because it deserves to be recognized.

Oh, and the best part? The person who nominates the winner receives a complimentary session fee ($125) and $100 print credit. What better reason to show some love could there possibly be, people?

The rules:

* You cannot nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make the annual trip to Disney World does not qualify as sincere financial need.)  :)

* The nominee must reside in the East Valley, within 30 miles of 85295 (or the session must take place at a location that is). Tell me who you know, what they’re experiencing, and why they deserve my artwork. Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself.

*If you don’t know someone that could use this, pass the link on! Post it on your blog, facebook, myspace, email it to your friends and family because I’m sure they could spread the love to someone they might know.

* You must e-mail me the full story : laura@laurawinslowphotography.com by Monday, December 21st at 2:00 pm.

*The winning sessions will take place between January and May 2010.  Happy New Year!

You have from today until Monday, December 21st at 2:00 pm to submit your nomination. I must be able to notify the winner with a surprise phone call on Christmas Eve. I will also announce it on my blog that same day–so get nominating! I can’t wait to read all of your entries!

The premise is simple: think of someone you know who deserves custom photography but can no way possibly afford it. Nominate them to win it. Enjoy the warm fuzzy feeling you brought to the world.

Open your heart to someone this holiday season — and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.

With love,

laura

This little angel was due to arrive just a few days after Christmas.  Instead, he made his debut a full month early.   He is just so darling and it was just so wonderful to meet him and his family.  :)   I feel so blessed to be able to photograph and meet so many amazing people.  Really, I just don’t know how I get lucky every.single.time. and meet these interesting, sweet people who have so many life stories to tell.   Mom was so easy to talk to and we had a great deal in common.  She had the most fabulous props…ummm, I mean furniture…:) to use!  Check out this awesome zebra print ottoman and the cool chandelier.  If you ever decide not to stay in the nursing field, there’s always a career in interior design, girlie!  It was an honor to photograph your darling little man.  Thank you!

“It is not a slight thing when those so fresh from God love us.”

~Charles Dickens

This little pumpkin hat has great meaning to me.   When my son Jackson was born, he was very sick and spent awhile in the NICU on a ventilator.  It was the most difficult thing in the world to leave our baby at the hospital, but the nurses and volunteers that we encountered there were our lights in the darkness.   A group of ladies knit a bunch of these pumpkin hats for all the babies in the NICU.  I still remember the day we walked in to go see him and had to have a little laugh to myself.  We had walked into a pumpkin patch.  The nurses had put the little hats on all the babies for Halloween.  It was a wonderful sight.  It was a bright spot, it made me feel normal.  So, I tucked it away in his baby book and thought to bring it out for this October newborn session.  It fit this sweet, sweet little girl so perfectly.  It brings back wonderful memories and makes me happy to see this special hat on other babies.  :)   Don’t  you just love how she has found her little thumb already?  I loved photographing this little one and it was great to see her mom again–I got to photograph her and her “BUMP” awhile back…oh, and for those of you that were wondering–it’s a girl!!!!

Dad is a huge Boston Redsox fan–her middle name is Fenway, how cool is that?!–so we had to include a sneak peek for him, too. Enjoy your sneak peeks, and I can’t wait to see how much she has grown when I see you for the mini sessions!!

The hot pink bloom is from Dolce Vita Mia, and I loooove it!  She does fan-tabulous work, and if you want to see more of her work, head over to her website, where this little cutie pie can be seen!

“In the sheltered simplicity of the first days after a baby is born, one sees again the magical closed circle, the miraculous sense of two people existing only for each other.”

~Anne Morrow Lindbergh

She said goodnight to her sister, went upstairs and thought that it would be smooth sailing since her due date was over a week away and her husband would be returning from out of town the next day.   Apparently this little one had different plans.  As she lay down for the night, she felt her water break and the journey began.  Her husband drove in the middle of the night from California, thankfully making it in more than enough time to welcome his sweet little princess into this world.  You see, she waited. It was such a pleasure to photograph this beautiful couple as they were anticipating the arrival of their little girl, and again a pleasure to photograph and meet their sweetie.  Thanks so much!  :)

This fresh little one loved her mommy so much that she decided to wait to make her debut until she was 41 weeks, and when she arrived at 10 pounds, 1 ounce, she was greeted with so much love and warmth.   This mommy has an exuberance about her that is contagious.  She was so excited for her sweetie’s arrival and is such a strong woman–she welcomed this darling at home…and it was her first!  I was so happy to have been able to photograph her while pregnant, and now to photograph this little princess.   It is something incredible to be able to bear witness to this amazing journey that a woman takes into motherhood.  I feel so fortunate to be a part of such a life-changing experience.  Thank you for allowing me to document your story…
